Impressions Journal was built around one idea: what you choose to write down — a name, a sighting, a passing thought — is yours, and yours alone. This policy explains exactly what that means in practice.
Every Impression you create — its name, description, tags, photos, locations, and timeline — is stored using Apple's iCloud, tied to your personal Apple ID. We do not operate a separate server, and we do not have our own database of your Impressions. Your data syncs directly between your own devices through iCloud, the same way Apple's own apps like Notes and Reminders do.
When you create an Impression by speaking to Siri, or when the app extracts a short name and description from your longhand input, that processing happens through Apple's on-device and system frameworks. Your spoken or typed input is not sent to our own servers for this purpose.
Impressions Journal uses your device's location to tie an Impression to the place it happened, to plot Impressions on the map, and to update widgets as you move between saved locations. This location data is stored as part of your Impression in your own iCloud account and is not transmitted to us or to any third party.
The Apple Watch app creates and syncs Impressions the same way as the iPhone app — through your iCloud account, not through a separate service.
Because your Impressions live in your iCloud account, you can delete any Impression, folder, or photo at any time from within the app, and it will be removed across all your synced devices. Deleting the app or turning off iCloud sync for Impressions Journal in Settings will stop any further syncing.
Impressions Journal is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
If this policy changes — for example, as we add features like syncing to Reminders, Contacts, or a CRM — we'll update this page and revise the date above.
