The Inbox
Some things reach Catchall when you're not looking at it. They wait in the Inbox until you've looked them over. The Inbox button appears on the Collections screen whenever something is waiting, with a count.
Two kinds of thing end up there.
Records made in the background
When you share photos into Catchall, or use the Add Photos to Collection Shortcuts action, you choose a collection and Catchall reads the photos in the background. The records it makes aren't added straight away - they wait in the Inbox for you to review, just as they would at the end of a capture.
Tap a batch to review it. Correct anything you like - corrections are kept if you leave and come back - then add the records to the collection. If you don't want them, use Discard Batch. The records and their cropped photos are thrown away; the photographs they were read from are kept.
If the collection a batch was meant for has been deleted since, the Inbox says so.
Background reading happens when iOS allows it, which isn't always immediately. If Background App Refresh is off for Catchall, it happens the next time you open the app instead.
Saved for later
Photos you've put aside with Save for Later wait here with no collection chosen. Nothing has been read yet. Tap them to pick up where you left off: check the outlines, choose a collection, and carry on as normal. You can add more photos to the batch before you do.
Save for Later is useful when:
- you have no connection - reading photos needs one;
- you want to photograph something now and sort it out later;
- you're not sure yet which collection it belongs in.
iCloud and the Inbox
The Inbox always stays on the device it was made on. It isn't synced to your other devices, even with iCloud sync on - though an export does include it.
