Search
Search looks through every record's fields, in every collection, at once. Find a record by anything that was read into it: a name, a dish, a venue, a vintage.
Results are grouped by collection, with the best matches first. Each group shows its first few; tap Show All to see the rest.
Searching by date
Type a date, and Catchall offers it as a suggestion under Filter By. Tap the suggestion to search by when rather than by what.
- A year: "2025"
- A month: "September", or "Sept" - abbreviations work, and so does a month you're partway through typing
- A day: "Sept 7"
A date with no year means the most recent one. A date filter matches either the date of the thing itself - when the gig was - or the date the photo was taken.
Relative dates such as "last March" or "yesterday", and numeric dates such as "9/7", aren't understood yet. Use the month's name and the year instead.
Searching from outside the app
- Siri: "Search my Wine List in Catchall", or "Look through my Receipts in Catchall".
- Shortcuts: the Search Collections action searches for words, and can be narrowed to one collection, a stretch of time, or both.
- Spotlight: your records appear when you search from the Home Screen.
See Ways to use Catchall.
What search doesn't look at
Search matches what's in a record's fields - not the pixels of its photo. If something was in the photo but isn't in a field, it won't be found. Adding a field for it (and filling it in) fixes that.
