Checking the outlines
When Catchall finds several separate things in a photo - books on a shelf, dishes on a menu, cards laid out on a table - it outlines each one. Each outline becomes its own record.
A photo with more than one item shows a badge with the count, such as "4 items". Tap the photo to open it full screen and check the outlines.
Marking what you want
| To do this | Do this |
|---|---|
| Outline an item | Tap it. Catchall finds the edges of whatever you tapped. |
| Outline something irregular | Draw around it with one finger. |
| Draw a box | Touch and hold, then drag. A rectangle follows your finger. |
| Remove an outline | Double-tap it. |
| Zoom in or move around | Pinch, or drag with two fingers. |
Undo and Redo are in the toolbar, and Clear removes every outline so you can start again. If you mark something that's already outlined, Catchall tells you rather than adding it twice.
One record or several?
The picker at the bottom decides how the photo becomes records:
- Auto uses what Catchall found.
- Split adds the outlines you drew. Drawing an outline switches to Split for you, so what you marked is used straight away.
- Single keeps the whole photo as one record, whatever is outlined.
Use Single for something that's one thing even though it has parts - a poster, a receipt, a business card. Use Split for a grid, a list, or a spread of separate items.
Tips
- Outlines don't need to be tight. What matters is that each item you want is outlined once.
- For a dense grid - a contact sheet, a page of stamps - it's often quicker to draw boxes than to tap.
- If you only want some of the items in a photo, remove the outlines you don't want before you continue.
